CU to host eclipse-viewing event in Folsom Field

 

On Sunday, May 20, Coloradans will see a “bite” taken out of the sun as the moon moves across the sun causing a partial solar eclipse. The eclipse starts at 6:22 p.m. with maximum eclipse at 7:30 p.m. and the sun will set at 7:50 p.m.

Boulder to celebrate Electric Vehicle Day with expo, film screening May 17 at CU

The latest in electric vehicle technology -- including cars, motorcycles, bicycles and charging systems -- will be showcased in the west parking lot of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Wolf Law Building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 17.

A screening of the documentary “Revenge of the Electric Vehicle” with a question-and-answer session will be held later that day from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in room 1B20 of the CU-Boulder Visual Arts Complex. Both events, including refreshments and door prizes donated by local sponsors, are free and open to the public.

CU graduating senior excels after emigrating from Romania as a political refugee

Boroka Bo, a 31-year-old senior sociology major, is graduating May 11 from the University of Colorado Boulder, 17 years after emigrating from the Transylvania region of Romania to the United States as a political refugee.

This spring, Bo received a prestigious Soros Fellowship, a program that awards 30 fellowships annually to naturalized citizens, green card holders or children of naturalized citizens. It provides up to $90,000 in support to students who plan to use their graduate education to contribute back to their communities.

CU’s Conference on World Affairs offers political dialogue ‘as it should be’

The University of Colorado Boulder’s annual Conference on World Affairs returns to campus for the 64th time April 9-13, with 200 events including panel discussions, performances and plenaries.

More than 100 participants from around the country and the globe will pay their own way to travel to Boulder to participate in what Roger Ebert termed “the Conference on Everything Conceivable.” All events are free and open to the public.

CU law professor takes high school students to Washington

For the past eight months, CU-Boulder Law School students have been working with 250 high school students at seven area high schools on building a strong foundation of civics education as part of the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project, a national program designed to give high school students an in-depth look at constitutional law.

CU-Boulder to host Military Student Day March 21

The University of Colorado Boulder will host Military Student Day on March 21 to assist military service members interested in transitioning from military service to life as a college student.

Co-sponsored by CU-Boulder’s Office of Admissions and the Office of Veteran Services, the daylong event is aimed at supporting Colorado’s service members who are interested in pursuing college degrees, specifically those who are close to military retirement and separation, according to Michael Roberts, program manager of CU’s Veteran Services office.

CU undergrads design toys for children who are blind

A small smile appeared on the young girl’s face as she listened to the high-pitched sound coming from the whiffle ball. The sound helped the elementary student locate the ball after her classmate hit it from a specially designed baseball tee.

Both of the students are blind. On a recent afternoon, they were in a classroom at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Integrated Teaching and Learning Program and Laboratory testing toys designed by first-year engineering students. The students are enrolled in CU engineering instructor Seth Murray’s freshman projects class.
